They say winners are grinners. And at last our pensioners have something to smile about, as businesses offer a helping hand. Here comes the week of the great giveaways!
Simon Baker from you guessed it - Bakers Delight is well - delighted to be part of our Adopt a Pensioner campaign. His store is just one of a select many, right across the country, taking part in next weeks donation program.
"Next week, Monday to Friday, Bakers Delight are participating in the Adopt a Pensioner program by donating bread in a range of stores across Australia in the last half hour of trade," says Simon.
Captain Dave Lazarus is lowering the gang plank offering his "Funboat" cruise free for the whole of next week to any pensioner who can make it down to his dock.
The laughs, a game of bingo, and an entertaining visit from a very suspicious looking Elvis, can raise a pretty mean appetite. Time for a quick pit stop to bring on the free lunch, all thanks to chicken shop The Roaming Bird.
While the government may have forgotten about the pensioners, many of you have not. Since Today Tonight launched Adopt A Pensioner, almost 6500 people are now registered to participate.
For the rest of you - there's no time like the present.
Actor Henry Szeps may not be a pensioner but he is an old codger ... well, at least in his latest play, "Codgers".
Producer of the play Grant Dodwell thinks it's time tales about our elderly took centre stage. When Codgers premiers later this month, he feels it's fitting to make the first preview free to our pensioners.
As the Funboat docks and our revitalised pensioners pick up a bag of IGA groceries, our call goes out to other businesses: step up to the challenge and lend a helping hand!
