Eye chi: seeing is believing

  • Reporter: James Thomas

If what the participants of this training program say are true, then seeing really is believing: with simple exercises, you can improve your eyesight so much you can throw away your glasses.

In some cases, the improvements can happen in just a few days: no contacts, no spectacles and no surgery - and all because the eyes have it - naturally.

"It is unbelieveable," said eye 'training' specialist Leo Angart. "In fact I didn't believe it myself.

"I myself have worn glasses for 26 years - my dioptres were three and a half, meaning I could not see very far - it took me three months to get rid of them."

Leo has been teaching his Vision Training program for 10 years, producing some remarkable results in people with all sorts of eyesight issues, from near and far sightedness, and astigmatism.

"I think of this as t'ai chi for the eyes," he said. "It is simple exercises which give you more flexibility and thereby you can see better.

"My approach is specific exercises for whatever problem you have, so you will end up with two, possibly three exercises, and that is it - you do not need to do more."

And that approach has won Leo legions of fans, including Dr Ysaiah Ross, who stopped wearing his glasses shortly after undergoing vision training two years ago. He spends five minutes a day on the exercises, and is still seeing new benefits.

"I impress a lot of people because I am 67 now, and I am sitting there reading a newspaper. I am not wearing any glasses, they think I am wearing contacts, and I say, 'no, I am not wearing contacts'," said Dr Ross.

"The technique is wonderful - you do not have to have surgery, you do it yourself."

Eye specialist Russell Lowe, from the Optometrists Association of Australia, warns against people self-diagnosing their condition, but admits Leo's exercises may have some value.

"Exercises for eyes are great," he said. "But I would caution people to beware of outlandish or excessive claims.

"Remember that most people will always need some glasses or some sort of vision correction in a conventional sense - there is no such thing as a cure."

Leo Angart's two-day Vision Training workshop costs $385. It is suitable for people of all ages, with all sorts of vision difficulties.
