Buying a cheap TV

A young self-made millionaire is giving big business a run for its money, beating them at their own game by selling cheap televisions.

Former IT specialist, Ruslan Kogan, found the prices of new TVs exorbitant and decided to make his own.

He travelled to China, found a manufacturer and got to work.

It was there the Kogan brand was born.

"Kogan cuts out every single middle-man," Ruslan said.

"I deal with the factories and manufacturers in China, I bring the goods to Australia and sell them directly to the consumer.

"Previously they'd have to pay up to $1000 for a GPS unit, now they can pick one up for $300."

Last year his business turned over $5 million. Ruslan was determined to make sure his range of LCD TVs, GPS systems, phones, keyless locks and digital photo frames could compete quality wise with the big brands.

He even uses some of their parts in his range.

He sells his products online and said most of the time people can save up to 50 per cent off normal retail prices and occasionally the prices plummet even further.
